City of Truro Rally 4th October 2003.

Richard and the Team travelled over 250 miles to Truro, Cornwall to compete in the final event of British National Tarmacadam Championship 2003, The City of Truro Rally. An overall class win in a National series was the incentive to complete the 5 ½ hour trek from Warwickshire to RAF Predannack. The red 106 passed Scrutineering, within Cornwall College, without the amusing live demonstration of the on board fire system publicly displayed at the previous event.

The normal crew of John Clews, Trevor Godwin, Phil Talboys, Dave Lea, Barry James and Richard Clews were happy with their luxurious accommodation complete with sea view.
The Rally consisted of approximately 70 competitive miles over 8 stages of sealed surface stages. A modest start time of 9.08 am suited the Team well after their previous days journey. Richard and Barry were unwavering in their determination to win the Championship (another competitor had travelled over 500 miles in an attempt to beat them).

Strong winds helped dry the damp tarmac as the Red Peugeot left the start line. The crew approached the first narrow right hander flat out in 4th gear and promptly spun! No damage occurred apart from the drivers pride - Richards excuses ranged from a light rear caused by cold tyres, no spare wheel and a low fuel load!
A careful beginning saw Richard and Barry increase their speed to finish an impressive 18th overall in an event which encompassed a round of the BTRDA National Tarmac Championship.

Richard, Barry and the Team were delighted with their result. Seeded 19th they again proved they were worthy of their high start number.
Many thanks to everyone involved - especially local photographer Mark Sims of RallyGallery.com who pleased everyone with his regular array of stunning images.

Richard was especially pleased with the crews First Overall in Class position in The British National Tarmacadam Championship 2003 (having successfully beaten larger teams with more substantial budgets).

Richard Clews Rallying would not have been able to achieve a Championship winning result in 2003 without the help of sponsors, supporters families (and a little Red Peugeot)!

“Thank you very much – here’s to 2004”…
