Press information, Richard Clews Rallying

Richard Clews, from Warwickshire, is proprietor of Clews Cars, part of the Clews Group. Richard has been successfully competing in various stage rallies since 2000. Richards father, John Clews, made his name as a Motoring News road rally competitor in the 1960's and contributes years of expertise.

In his early rallying career Richard competed very successfully in The Heart of England Rally Championship. All tarmac events resulted in a top 3 finish with his first class win in 2001.

Richard Clews entered the British National Tarmacadam Championship in 2003 as Richard Clews Rallying, in a brand new meticulously prepared Peugeot 106 Gti. Excited by their results in 2003 further development saw the Peugeot successfully complete two full seasons regularly beating larger, more affluent teams during 2004 and 2005.

Richard and co-driver Barry James won their Class and finished an incredible 9th overall on the Cheviot National Rally in October 2005. They set 6 top ten stage times on the fast roads at Otterburn Ranges - an outstanding result for the car and the Team. Richard and the little Peugeot dominated their class during 2006 and won the Prima Motorsport MSA National Asphalt Rally Championship again!

A front running GpN Fiesta ST was purchased and successfully competed in National and International events throughout 2009 and 2010.

Over the last 13 years of rallying Richard has become a highly respected Tarmac rally driver winning his class in the British championship 8 times! With outright Front Wheel Drive victory in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

2011 saw the team move into the highly competitive 4 wheel drive GpN Subaru Impreza prepared by Welsh rallying stalwart Geoff Jones. Richard certainly has been getting to grips with the powerful car, aided by some in-car tuition from rallying legend Mark Higgins. This and an additional International Rally in Belgium helped Richard take another victory with the title of GPN British tarmac champion 2011. What will 2012 hold?
